Free IT equipment for your organisation
As a rule, MACAW does not offer a recycling service for old PC equipment. If you have obsolete equipment that needs to be disposed of, we can point you to a recycler who will do so.
However, we have recently been offered a quantity of PCs to give away to organisations who are in need of new machines and cannot afford them. Does this sound like you? If so - read on...
Recycled PCs
We have a limited quantity of these PCs to give away. The minimum specification is as follows:
- 40 GB hard drive
- Pentium 4 processor, 1.7 GHz (some are 1.8 GHz or more)
- 512 MB RAM
- 52x CD-ROM drive
- 2 x USB ports (some have four rear USB ports plus two on the front of the case)
- Floppy disk drive installed
- Desktop-type case
- Keyboard and optical mouse included
- 17" CRT monitor (high quality CTX unit - 1280x1024, 85Hz flicker-free)
These PCs come with no operating system installed, but we can arrange this for you. There are several options.
- If you have a charity number, we can help you obtain an install of Windows XP Professional for very low cost. Please call us on 0845 337 0577 for more details.
- If you want to replace an existing PC, you can use an upgrade license for Windows or a full retail version of Windows. Alternatively we can transfer your old hard drive into the new PC, but you will need the original CDs that came with the computer for driver upgrades.
- We can also install a free Linux-based operating system. If you are a regular Windows user we recommend Ubuntu or PCLinuxOS. This will come with free applications such as a word processer, spreadsheet, photo editing, instant messaging and email.

We have been donated two sets of speakers that are available for free. Both sets are active and have front-mounted level and tone controls.
